The country is so
beautiful. We've seen a lot of great places in the short time we've
been here. The ocean hitting the seawall is amazing in various hues
of blue.
Last night we visited one
of the original Spanish forts to watch the traditional firing of the
cannon. It has been done for the last 500 years, regardless of
weather.
The church service was
absolutely fantastic. It is like other services in the Caribbean,
lots of music, lots of instruments, dancing and praying in the
aisles. The Bishop preached and had each of us to come up on stage
so the people could greet us. I have never been hugged and kissed
so much.
Our religious visas did
not go through so we are here strictly as tourists. This means we
cannot work next to our brothers and sisters doing construction,
however, we can encourage them. As Eddie Hilliard, our team leader
stated, we are no longer a construction team but are ambassadors.
We leave today for Camp
Canaan. It is a four hour drive. Fortunately, the bus has air
conditioning and is not uncomfortable. We will spend the night
there and leave tomorrow for Pilon, a ten hour bus ride. Our
itinerary has also changed to include San Cienfuegos. We return to
Havana and spend the night before leaving for home.
I have taken so far over
300 pictures. You all are so going to hate me!!
I found a cute wind
chime!! I'm thinking of bringing back Cuban coffee, think anyone
will be interested.....
I may send another e-mail
right before we come home. We will be back in Havana next weekend.
Pray for our continued
good health and that we do a good job in our new roles.
Love to all
Gwendolyn Young
